LTC Don Brown assumed command of 1-27 IN on 3 June 2009.  LTC Brown was born and raised in Lebanon, OR.  He attended the United States Military Academy and graduated in 1993 with a degree in Environmental Engineering. 

After graduation LTC Brown attended the Infantry Officer Basic Course, Ranger School where he won the Merrill’s Marauder award, and the Anti-Armor Platoon Leaders Course at Ft Benning, Georgia. 

LTC Brown’s first assignment was as a rifle platoon leader in A/2-187 IN at Ft Campbell, KY.  LTC Brown then served as a Weapons Platoon Leader, Rifle Platoon Leader and Company Executive Officer in C/3-75th Ranger Regiment at Ft Benning, GA. 

After the Infantry Officers Advanced Course LTC Brown served as an AS3 in 3-8 CAV and an S4 in 2-7 CAV, then he commanded C/2-7 CAV and HHC/2-7 CAV in 3rd BDE/1st Cavalry Division at Ft Hood Texas. 

After company command LTC Brown returned to Ft Benning, GA where he served as Small Group Instructor at the Infantry Officers Advanced Course and then PCS’d to Ft Leavenworth, KS to the Command and General Staff College.

LTC Brown departed the Command and General Staff College enroute to Ft Lewis, WA and then deployed to Iraq to serve as the XO for 1-24 IN (SBCT)/ 1st BDE 25th ID in Northern Iraq.  After redeploying to Ft Lewis LTC Brown was reassigned to 1-14 CAV (SBCT)/3rd BDE 2nd ID and deployed to Iraq a second time as the S3 for 1-14 CAV (SBCT.) while the Squadron served in Baghdad and southern Iraq.

Upon return from Iraq LTC Brown returned to Ft Leavenworth, KS and attended the School for Advanced Military Studies prior to taking command of 1-27 IN (SBCT.)

LTC Brown’s awards and decorations include the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Expert Infantryman’s Badge, the Senior Parachutist Badge, the Air Assault Badge, Ranger Tab, German Parachutist Badge, MSM with 2 OLC, Bronze Star with 1 OLC, Bronze Star with V device and the Purple Heart.

LTC Brown holds a Masters Degree in International Relations from Troy University and a Masters in Military Arts and Science from the School for Advanced Military Studies through Kansas State University.

LTC Brown is married to the former Ashley Hall of Dothan, Alabama and they have two sons, Bowen and Larson.
